The Department of Theology & Religious Studies at Villanova University invites application for a tenure-track assistant professor in Eastern Christian Theology & Culture, to begin August 2027. We welcome applications from scholars trained in Theology and/or Religious Studies whose research focuses on any aspect of Eastern Christian traditions, including: Greek or Syriac patristics, Byzantine theology & culture, Russian religious thought, contemporary Orthodox or Eastern Catholic theology & culture. Successful candidates will have research competence in relevant languages. They will demonstrate potential for teaching and mentoring excellence at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. Villanova is a Catholic university sponsored by the Augustinian order. The department seeks candidates whose research and/or teaching demonstrates present or potential engagement with Catholicism in its theological and religious traditions. Requirements
Musts:
- Possess at time of appointment Ph.D or equivalent in Theology, Religious Studies, or cognate field.
- Demonstrate evidence of VU-tenurable research and teaching trajectory in an aspect of Eastern Christian Theology & Culture.
- Demonstrate present or potential teaching competence in a variety of offerings on Eastern Christian Theology & Culture.
- Demonstrate present or potential teaching and mentoring excellence at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels.
- Demonstrate present or potential engagement in research and/or teaching with Catholicism in its theological and religious traditions
- Have competence in research languages related to specific field of study.

- Indicate competence in Eastern Christianity within a World Christianity perspective.
- Show interest in relations of Christian and Islamic worlds within the Middle East, Horn of Africa, Russia, eastern Europe, the Caucasus, or globally.
