Job Description:
The Fifth Judicial District Attorney’s office is seeking Assistant Trial Attorneys, Trial Attorneys, and Senior Trial Attorneys to join our team. These roles provide an exciting opportunity to engage in the prosecution of a variety of criminal offenses ranging from misdemeanors to felonies. Attorneys in our office receive guidance from assigned supervisors and senior attorneys, and case assignments that ensure continuous professional growth and development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prosecute criminal cases, including a range of misdemeanors and felonies.
- Conduct legal research, draft legal documents, and assist in trial preparation.
- Work independently and make decisions on case progression, including dismissals, trial proceedings, or plea negotiations.
- Collaborate with criminal justice agencies, ensuring a unified approach to case management.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with team members and external stakeholders, demonstrating professionalism and effective communication.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Basic understanding of criminal prosecution, rules of evidence, and criminal procedure.
- Strong ability to draft legal documents, conduct legal research, and analyze case information.
- Independent decision-making within established guidelines, including judgment on case direction.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and public relations skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and external partners.
Salary:
Salary will be determined according to the New Mexico District Attorney’s Salary Schedule, with a range up to $117,490 for an Assistant Trial Attorney, up to $125,340 for a Trial Attorney, and up to $138,485 for a Senior Trial Attorney, depending on experience.
