- Building Department Assistant
Description
Northfield Township is now hiring for a full-time Building Department Assistant. We are seeking individuals with a background with the building permit process to assist our Building Department. In addition to working with the Building Department, this position will act as the first point of contact for individuals calling or stopping into the Township office, as well as assisting the Clerk's office with elections as needed.
Duties include:
* Maintain Building Department Files.
* Issue permits, process invoices, and schedule inspections using BS&A software system. This includes communication and collaboration with office personnel, contracted inspectors, county departments, and the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
* Receive and greet visitors and callers - determine needs and handle inquiries by providing information, written materials, or instructions and referring to appropriate staff member/department for resolution as needed.
* Collection of tax, utility, building department and other municipal payments – Processing multiple payments throughout the day.
* Collect and disperse incoming daily mail.
* General administrative duties.
* Assist the Clerk’s office with elections when needed.

Requirements
Must have strong organization skills and attention to detail. Should also possess a high level of integrity, ability to use a computer and learn new computer programs, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
Required:
* High School diploma/GED; some college or Associate’s degree preferred.
Preferred but not required:
* General knowledge or previous experience with municipal government
* Previous experience with building department/inspection procedures
* Exposure to BS&A software system.
