Description
OverviewThe Assistant Golf Course Superintendent is a key member of the property's agronomy leadership team. This role directly supports the Golf Course Superintendent and Director of Agronomy in managing day-to-day operations, maintenance, and crew supervision across the golf course, clubhouse grounds, and facilities. The ideal candidate is a passionate, detail-oriented professional looking to advance their career in turfgrass management.
Experience Required
- A 2-to-4-year degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field is highly preferred.
- 2-4 years of experience in golf course maintenance, with preference given to prior supervisory or specialized technician roles.
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain within 90 days, a valid State Pesticide Applicator License.
- General proficiency with Microsoft Excel/Word, irrigation central control systems, and complex mechanical equipment.
- Current membership, or a path toward it, in the GCSAA or local regional chapters.
- Requires working long hours, early mornings, weekends, and holidays according to seasonal needs.
- Heavy physical labor involved, including walking and lifting up to 50 lbs, with exposure to fluctuating outdoor weather conditions.
Essential Responsibilities
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise the daily tasks of the grounds crew, foremen, and technicians.
- Calibrate, operate, and track chemical and fertilizer sprayers in compliance with safety regulations.
- Oversee moisture monitoring, hand watering, scheduling, system troubleshooting, and hardware repairs.
- Manage daily course setup, tournament preparation, and conditioning standards to ensure top playability.
- Assist with recordkeeping, safety training documentation, and managing operating and capital budgets.
