Description
OverviewThe Full Time Assistant Golf Professional - Short Course is a key member of the golf operations team at Chechessee Creek Club's new short course, opening Fall 2026. Reporting directly to the Head Golf Professional - Short Course, this role supports the daily operation of the short course and golf shop, delivers an exceptional member and guest experience, and assists in the coordination of events and programming unique to this new venue. The Assistant Golf Professional - Short Course works collaboratively with the broader golf operations team, including the Head Golf Professional - Main Course and Merchandise Manager, as part of an integrated, high-performing club.
Experience Required
- Genuine passion for golf in all formats and enthusiasm for contributing to the launch and growth of a new short course experience.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; able to interact professionally with members, guests, and staff at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records.
- Proficiency in golf management software (tee sheet systems, GHIN, POS); training available for qualified candidates.
- Knowledge of USGA Rules of Golf and handicap procedures.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a golf operations role at a private club or comparable facility preferred.
- Professional appearance, demeanor, and conduct consistent with the standards of a premier private club.
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, and early mornings.
Essential Responsibilities
Golf Operations
- Provide warm, attentive, and personalized service to members and guests at all times; serve as an ambassador of the Club's standards of hospitality and the distinctive character of the short course experience.
- Maintain a high level of visibility and accessibility throughout the club and on the course.
- Assist with daily opening and closing procedures for the Golf Shop, including balancing petty cash and caddie bank.
- Support all daily administrative functions: player check-in, fee collection, starting time management, and pace-of-play oversight.
- Manage tee sheet activity for the short course; communicate course conditions, pace-of-play expectations, and scheduling information to members and guests.
- Communicate regularly with the Head Golf Professional regarding operational priorities, member feedback, and assigned duties.
- Maintain a clean, organized Golf Shop, office, and stockroom in accordance with Club standards.
- Assist in the supervision and daily guidance of Seasonal Assistant Golf Professionals assigned to the short course as directed by the Head Golf Professional - Short Course.
Tournament Operations
- Assist in overseeing all aspects of event coordination on the short course from planning through execution, including casual play formats, social events, and member programming unique to the venue.
- Support the Head Golf Professional - Short Course in scheduling and promoting club events and member programming at the short course.
- Assist in managing the short course tee sheet; maintain accurate records for all groups and events.
- Assist in generating and distributing a monthly calendar of golf events; collaborate with the Merchandise Manager to coordinate fitting events and drive member participation.
- Partner with the Merchandise Manager to promote events, support logo merchandise sales, and align golf services around key programming.
- Communicate event details, course availability, and scheduling information to members and guests in a timely and enthusiastic manner.
- Coordinate player registration, scoring, handicap posting, and results communications for short course events and member programming.
- Maintain and monitor the club's GHIN handicap system.
Collaborative Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Merchandise Manager on golf shop operations, including merchandise display, inventory organization, and sales assistance.
- Assist in receiving, tagging, and displaying new merchandise in coordination with the Merchandise Manager.
- Coordinate with the Director of Outside Operations (as applicable) to ensure cart fleet readiness, range operations, and outside staff are aligned with the daily tee sheet and event schedule.
- Support cross-course communication and programming initiatives as directed by the Head Golf Professional - Short Course, including coordination with the main course team on shared member events and staffing.
