OverviewBig Canyon Country Club offers a distinct career track for a dedicated golf professional looking to advance within a premier private equity operation in Southern California. Founded in 1971, our club is a premier private equity facility in Newport Beach with a long-standing reputation for operational excellence and hosting championship events.
We are currently executing a comprehensive golf course renovation led by acclaimed architect Andrew Green . Joining our team during this phase provides firsthand exposure to a major, high-profile club relaunch, offering valuable operational experience that will significantly benefit your long-term career progression.
Mentorship & Culture
We view the Assistant position as a practical training ground for future Head Professionals and Directors of Golf. Our leadership team provides structured mentoring and comprehensive operational training; we deeply value promoting from within and outline a clear pathway to a leadership role within our operation. We offer direct development in budgeting, high-end merchandising, advanced tournament operations via Golf Genius, and staff leadership.

Experience Required
- PGA Status: Class A Member in good standing, or a motivated Level 3 PGA Associate tracking quickly toward election.
- Experience: A proven background in private clubs or luxury hospitality, with a strong commitment to delivering personalized service.
- Tech Proficiency: Working knowledge of Golf Genius, Operation 36, and Clubessential.
- Leadership: A collaborative leader who knows how to inspire, develop, and empower a team to take pride in delivering a premier member experience.
Essential Responsibilities
This position requires a professional who wants to take direct ownership of elite operations and high-level hospitality. Working closely with our Head Golf Professional, you will:
- Lead and Mentor: Direct, train, and supervise our outside service team, ensuring our practice facilities, staging areas, and cart fleet consistently meet club standards.
- Member Engagement & Service Leadership: Act as a key ambassador on the tee sheet and daily operations, developing professional relationships with our membership and anticipating their preferences. You will manage the outside staff to deliver this same attentive level of service across the entire operation.
- Tournament Operations: Assist with coordinating the logistics, setup, and execution of daily play, member tournaments, and club leagues.
- Player Development & Instruction: Support our player development programs by conducting instructional clinics and private lessons tailored for youth, ladies, and men.
- Elevate the Retail Experience: Manage high-end visual merchandising displays, assist with inventory strategy, and conduct custom club fittings using latest-generation equipment.
