Description
OverviewThe Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports to the Golf Course Superintendent and works under that position's direction to manage and oversee all aspects of golf course maintenance and other landscaping facilities on the property. The role supports superior playing conditions for members and guests by assisting with maintenance department policies, delegating work assignments, and applying agronomic knowledge in the use of fertilizers, chemicals, sprayers, and spreaders.
Experience Required
- Able to communicate politely and professionally with guests, members, customers, and fellow staff members.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Enrolled in a degree in Golf Management or Agronomy, or 5 or more years related experience and/or training, or a combination of education and experience.
- 5 years progressive experience as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.
- Current and valid driver's license.
- Must have good knowledge of agronomics and the application of fertilizers and chemicals, and operation of sprayers and spreaders.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and scheduled Golf Club events, as needed.
- Knowledge of computer programs such as JONAS, EZLINK, KRONOS, Excel, Microsoft Word, and Outlook is a plus.
- Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
Essential Responsibilities
- Assist in carrying out golf maintenance department policies.
- Assist in delegating work assignments and monitoring job performance in the golf course maintenance department.
- Work under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent to be accountable for the golf maintenance budget.
- Assist in hiring, training, supervising, disciplining, and terminating employees within the department.
- Monitor operations of the golf maintenance department, including scheduling, agronomic concerns, employee safety, and equipment maintenance.
- Supervise the maintenance of the golf courses.
- Oversee completion of work assignments by staff and assist with field decisions while performing labor when needed.
- Perform actual labor on the golf course as needed to demonstrate tasks, assist staff, and ensure timely completion.
- Enforce safe working conditions and instruct staff on proper equipment use and work methods.
- Supervise special projects and labor crews as directed by the Golf Course Superintendent or Director of Operations.
- Report golf course conditions and disciplinary problems to the Golf Course Superintendent or Director of Operations.
- Assist with staff scheduling and payroll processing for the department.
- Communicate verbally or by email with co-workers in golf maintenance and other departments.
- Coordinate equipment and tool maintenance issues with the appropriate equipment and/or facilities manager.
- Enforce company policies and procedures.
- Assist in administering the department through proper administrative procedures in accordance with corporate protocol, handbook, and policies.
- Provide professional advice, opinions, assistance, and services for the betterment of the golf course.
- Assist in developing written operating policies, preventative maintenance plans, fertilizer schedules, and overall course condition schedules, and track task completion.
- Help protect golf facility assets, including facilities and equipment.
