Schedule: Full-time, 260 days per year
Salary: $171,884 - $180,478
General Purpose: The Assistant Director of Student Services leads and supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of high-quality programs and services for students. This role provides direct, comprehensive support to district staff and leads instructional practices and program implementation in collaboration with district leadership and teaching staff. The Assistant Director also plays a key role in ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements for all programs within Student Services.
Essential Functions:
Assists the Director in collaboratively organizing, administering, and supervising the effective delivery and legal compliance of special programs for children ages birth through 22.
In conjunction with the Director, ensures that student services programs and activities align with district, state, and federal requirements and supports the completion of required state and federal reporting.
Provides professional collaboration, support, and direct supervision of assigned school psychologists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, physical therapists, behavior specialists, and office support staff.
Provides professional development and assists in the hiring and evaluation of special education teachers and related service providers, including training, guidance, and compliance related to federal and state programs overseen by the department.
Assists in providing administrative professional development, supervision, and oversight of district student services programs, including Special Education, Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), Title IA, Learning Assistance Program (LAP), Section 504, Multi-Lingual Learners (MLL), Highly Capable (Hi-Cap), and Nursing Services.
Serves as a resource to parents regarding program standards, requirements, and legal issues related to student services programs.
Maintains current knowledge of emerging special education issues, policy and case law changes, and effective instructional practices for students with disabilities to support a high-quality program.
Assists the Director in researching and developing policy for special services programs to ensure consistency and compliance with state and federal regulations.
Works collaboratively with administrators to support district goals and initiatives and ensure alignment of educational programs, services, and operations.
Monitors district decision-making processes to ensure the consistent use of data in determining student supports and services across programs.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services to support efficient district operations.

Qualifications:
Current Washington State Administrative credential or other state equivalent with the ability to get a Washington credential.
Master's degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology or related specialty.
A minimum of five years of successful experience as a special education teacher or educational staff associate is required. A minimum of three years of successful experience as a special programs administrator is preferred.
Strong expertise and experience in curriculum development and program innovation for special populations.
Knowledge and experience related to IDEA statutes, Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), Response to Intervention (RTI), Positive Behavioral Intervention Support (PBIS), and best practices in special education. Experience developing and coordinating programs for children with a variety of disabilities.
Working knowledge of special education laws, rules, and regulations.
Strong written and verbal presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage people and programs.
Strong supervisory and organizational skills.
Experience facilitating positive communications with staff, administration, school board, and the community.
Ability to use multiple forms of technology to include assistive technology for students, IEP Online, MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, Power Point, and student data systems.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
Must work in noisy and sometimes crowded environments.
Travel to other district schools and facilities
Working evenings and weekends on occasion
This position involves approximately 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Benefits:
School Employee Benefit Board (SEBB) Eligibility determination: All eligibility determinations are based on rules in Chapters 182-30 and 182-31 of the Washington Administrative Code (WAC). If the position is anticipated to work a minimum of 630 hours in a school year, then that position would be deemed benefit eligible. SEBB benefits include medical, vision, dental, long-term disability and life insurance. Supplemental coverages are also available.
Retirement Eligibility determination: A certificated position participates in the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) which requires at least 5 months of 70 or more hours of compensated employment during a school year to be eligible for Washington State Retirement. A classified position participates in the School Employee Retirement System (SERS) if the position is expected to require at least 5 months of 70 hours or more for two consecutive years (initially) of employment.
