Description
This position is responsible for all aspects of coordinating, planning, and developing a comprehensive array of career development resources for students at Central Michigan University and is responsible for marketing the resources to students, employers, and faculty from their assigned colleges and departments.
Duties and Reponsibilities
Advises students in one-on-one appointments and conducting group presentations on a wide variety of career development topics, such as advantages associated with pre-professional experiences, university, state, and federal laws affecting career planning, placement, and recruitment, resume, cover letter, reference, and writing sample preparation, internship search resources, networking opportunities, and interviewing techniques, and general professional etiquette guidelines.
Serves as career development liaison to students and faculty from their assigned academic colleges and assigned departments with responsibility for advising students on career opportunities and resources available, communicating with faculty/staff to maintain relationships with the college, and conducting career development presentations for students and registered student organizations.
Utilizes technology (including Career Central) and social media to assist with career-related issues, advising students on issues regarding this technology, maintaining the CMU career portal, and training students, faculty, staff, and employers on how to use the system.
Helps manage social media outlets to increase brand awareness of the Career Development Center.
Advises individual job seekers within their assigned academic colleges in identifying appropriate resources and developing overall strategies for career exploration, interview preparation, internships, and job search activities.
Develops and conducts presentations, programs, and outreach activities.
Markets services and programs to current and prospective students, parents, employer representatives, faculty, administrators, staff, and Alumni.
Participates in designated university-wide activities to promote the use of CMU Career Development Center to current and prospective students.
Supervises student employees and/or graduate students as required.
Interacts with key employers for internship and career development activities.
Actively participates in campus, community, state, regional, and national associations.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
Two years of experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this position or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Experience with website, mobile applications and virtual environments for job search, resume constructions, interview preparation online networking and recruiting systems.
Evidence of strong interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with multiple internal and external constituencies, diverse populations and differing perspectives.
Strong verbal and written communication, advising, managerial, social media and marketing skills.
Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate and execute events; conduct classroom presentations, workshops and programs.
Solid understanding of job market trends and projections.
Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends as required.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
Knowledge and use of social media channels.
General knowledge of university curricula and higher education policies and procedures.
Ability to perform the essential functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree preferred.
Knowledge of federal and state laws affecting career development operations and the employment process.
