- Assistant Coach
Description
Adelphi University is seeking a dedicated, energetic, and qualified individual to serve as a Part-Time Assistant Coach. This position is designed to support all phases of our competitive athletics program while working directly under the supervision of the Head Coach.
This part-time role offers an excellent professional development pathway for aspiring collegiate coaches. It features a tuition remission benefit, allowing the successful candidate the opportunity to earn an undergraduate or graduate degree from Adelphi University while gaining valuable NCAA Division II coaching experience.
Key Responsibilities
1. Scouting and Game Preparation
Create the Scout: Lead the film breakdown and analysis of upcoming opponents to build comprehensive, data-driven scouting reports.
Develop tactical strategies and present scouting insights clearly to the student-athletes and coaching staff.
Assist in creating daily practice plans designed to counteract opponent strengths and exploit weaknesses.
2. Recruiting
Identify, evaluate, and actively recruit high-caliber student-athletes who align with both the academic and athletic standards of Adelphi University.
Maintain an organized recruiting database and coordinate on-campus visits, tours, and admissions meetings for prospective student-athletes.
Attend showcase tournaments, high school games, and evaluation events as a representative of the university.
3. Assisting the Head Coach
Assist the Head Coach in running daily practices, implementing skill-development drills, and managing in-game adjustments.
Provide mentorship to student-athletes, monitoring their academic progress, personal development, and overall well-being.
Perform essential administrative tasks as assigned by the Head Coach, including travel logistics, equipment inventory, and social media coordination.
Ensure strict adherence to all NCAA Division II, Northeast-10 (NE10) Conference, and Adelphi University rules and regulations.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong understanding of technical skills, strategies, and rules associated with the sport.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to effectively motivate and mentor student-athletes.
Proficiency with sports editing/film software (e.g., Hudl, Volleymetrics) and standard office programs.
Schedule Flexibility: Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and travel for away competitions.
Required Education & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution is preferred (prerequisite for graduate-level tuition remission).
Prior competitive playing experience or coaching experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level is preferred.
A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
