Pacific Hospital of Long Beach (PHLB) is a full service, for profit, teaching hospital with 175 acute care beds. PHLB is fully accredited and has all the innovative technology that is expected of a major medical center but with a difference. Its environment is small enough to assure patients of calm, homelike surroundings and a capable and caring professional staff, resulting in a perfect blend of sensitivity and technology.

In the summer of 2002, PHLB will open 36 additional beds dedicated to the care and treatment of Adult Psychiatric Inpatients. While the new beds are licensed as an extension of the current service, their location will be off-campus 1.5 miles away.

In 1997, HealthSmart Pacific, Inc., a diversified healthcare organization purchased the hospital. Since the change in ownership, the hospital has tripled the inpatient census, increased surgeries by more than 600%, purchased Doctor's Hospial two miles west on Pacific Avenue, bought new technology for many departments, provided secure jobs for over osteopathic medicine.
