Company Overview
Community Medical Center is located in the heart of western Montana. CMC is licensed for 151 acute-care beds, including: 48 Medical/Surgical, 14 Pediatric Medical Surgical, 21 Obstetrics, 8 ICCU, 4 Pediatric ICCU, 21 bed level three NICU, and 26 Rehabilitation.
CMC provides its services to everyone. Sixty -five percent of all inpatients come from Missoula County,with another 21% from neigboring Ravalli (to the South) and Lake (to the North) Counties. Another 11% originate from other western Montana counties.
Almost 6000, inpatients are admitted to CMC each year. Over 151,000 outpatient services are provided annually, and more than 97,000 visits are made to our physicians.
CMC is located on a 45-acre campus in Missoula, MT, Missoula is a thriving community of 90,000 nestled in the Rocky Mountains of western Montana between Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks, Missoula is the region's major medical and retail center, with a cultural diversity unique to a city of its size, as well as unlimited outdoor recreation for every season. It is home to the University of Montana.
Company History
Governance and History: Community Medical Center, a not-for-profit corporation, is owned by the community of Missoula and is governed by a 17-member Board of Directors. A ten-member Senior Leadership Team oversees daily operation, assisted by a Leadership Council of Directors and Managers. Steve Carlson is chief executive officer and president.
In 1922 Dr. Will Thornton and Dr. Charles Thornton established the 42-bed Thornton Hospital. A Community non-profit corporation was formed in 1947, and the proceeds from a fund drive were used to purchase the existing private hospital facility, which was renamed Memorial Hospital. The name was changed to Missoula Community Hospital in 1960 and to Community Medical Center in 1988. The new hospital facility was opened in April 1972. Physician office centers were built in 1978, 1983, and 1995. A 32-bed addition for inpatient comprehensive medical rehabilitation was added in 1990. An outpatient surgery center opened in 1999. Community Physician Group Walk-In Clinic located at Northgate Plaza provides care on a walk-in basis for minor illness and injury.
