Research

Faculty members at Ohio State Newark are involved in research and many work closely with students on their research projects. Nineteen students participated in the 2016 Student Research Forum, submitting proposed and completed research as well as poster presentations. The forum aims to increase collaborative, student-faculty research endeavors at the Newark Campus, to encourage participation in honors research, and to further the goals of the OSU Denman Undergraduate Research Forum and the OSU Undergraduate Research Office at the Newark Campus.

Academics

Ohio State Newark offers general studies coursework applicable to all undergraduate degree programs at The Ohio State University. In addition, upper-division courses in several departments are offered. Entire degree programs may be completed at Ohio State Newark in the following areas: Early/Middle Childhood Education (B.S.Ed.), General Business (B.S.B.A.), English (B.A.), History (B.A.), Psychology (B.A. or B.S.), and Social Work (B.S.S.W.). A Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning and a Master of Social Work are also available.

By 1960, 46 scholarships worth $12,000 were awarded to students. In 1966, seven thousand Licking County residents pledged over $1 million toward the cost of land and construction of the first campus building. In 2010, local philanthropists J. Gilbert and Louella Reese challenged the community by matching all gifts up to $10 million; by the campaign’s conclusion in 2012, nearly $21 million had been raised for the Next Generation Challenge, which provides scholarships.

A true community effort, Ohio State Newark was founded in 1957. Community members gathered to paint, build and carry furniture into a remodeled barn, the campuses’ temporary first home. The first classes took place in the evenings at Newark High School with 80 students and eight faculty members

Today, the campus features 10 buildings, including a gymnasium and one residence hall. The John L. and Christine Warner Library & Student Center opened in autumn 2008 and a new facilities building was completed in December 2015.
