Description
The Department of Chemical Engineering at McGill University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position, preferably at the rank of Assistant Professor, in the area of Bioprocessing, Sustainability, and Energy, aligned with McGill’s Strategic Research Plan. While the Department has a particular interest in candidates specializing in Process Intensification or Bioprocess engineering , outstanding applicants working in other areas of Chemical Engineering will also be given full consideration.
Situated in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, McGill University is one of Canada’s leading research-intensive institutions and is consistently ranked among the top universities worldwide. The Department of Chemical Engineering has a distinguished history of excellence in research and teaching spanning more than a century and currently comprises 16 Professors and one Faculty Lecturer. The successful candidate is expected to contribute significantly to sustaining and enhancing McGill’s international reputation in research, teaching, and service.
Process Intensification: Process intensification encompasses advances in catalysis, thermodynamics, advanced separations, and integrated process design and optimization, including the scaling and modularization of chemical processes and the use of novel energy inputs (electrification, plasma-technology), enabling efficient and sustainable chemical systems with applications in industrial decarbonization, CO capture and conversion, the circular economy, and water and energy recovery.
Bioprocess Engineering: Bioprocess engineering encompasses bioprocessing, novel bioreactors or scale-up and scale-down approaches, downstream processing of biologics, bioprocess intensification, process analytical technologies and process control applied to biologics, omics technologies for bioprocess optimization, continuous biomanufacturing, and biomaterial fabrication.
Requirements
Candidates should have a Ph.D. and preferably, an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering. Evidence of outstanding research achievements and potential is indispensable. McGill University is an English-language university where most teaching and research activities are conducted in the English language, thereby requiring excellent English communication skills both verbally and in writing. Knowledge of French is an Asset. Registration in a Canadian professional engineering association is required within the first 5 years following hiring.
Preferred qualifications include dedication to an environment that supports diversity of population and perspectives; as our students come from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and backgrounds, we invite candidates to address in their application their ability to teach, supervise, and mentor in this context. The successful candidate will show a strong commitment to the mission of the University, through outstanding activities in the areas of research, teaching, and service.
Candidates should submit a complete application package consisting of:
- Cover letter (1 page)
- Curriculum vitae including a list of publications
- Research achievements and future (5 years) including research vision and a description of representative directions of research (max 5 pages),
- Teaching statement (2 pages)
- A statement on how equity, diversity and inclusion practices are incorporated in professorial activities (1/2 page)
- The names and email addresses of three references
- Copies of three recent publications
