The opportunity:
The University of Manitoba invites applications for the position of Senior Human Resources Assistant. This position will support end-to-end recruitment by ensuring compliance with collective agreements, preparing and posting job advertisements, creating position numbers, and coordinating all aspects of the posting process. The Senior Human Resources Assistant works closely with hiring managers by reviewing applicant pools, conducting reference checks, managing the casual pool, and preparing offer letters, while also coordinating external advertising across major platforms.
The Senior HR Assistant leads training and mentorship for HR Assistants, and supports hiring managers by developing training materials, providing HRIS training/system testing, and participating in selection panels. This position also delivers broad administrative and analytical support by generating HR metrics, maintaining key tracking lists, supporting special projects, reviewing job descriptions, onboarding new team members, and serving as a primary contact for HR inquiries. Additional responsibilities include preparing presentations, scheduling meetings, and contributing to organizational review materials and other operational needs.
The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:
- A degree or diploma in Human Resources or equivalent is required.
- A minimum of four years of Human Resource related experience is required.
- A minimum of two years functioning as a key HR support for talent acquisition and related activities, in a complex multi-unionized employer, in a people services department is required.
- Knowledge of the University of Manitoba HR protocols, policies and procedures is essential.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required, including the ability to communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Must be responsive and lead by example through superior client service skills.
- Must have analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite products is required, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, or other equivalent software.
- Must have excellent organizational, time management and prioritization skills.
- Ability to train, mentor, and guide new and existing HR staff across a range of administrative and HR processes is required.
- Ability to establish and foster supportive working relationships is required.
- Demonstrated professionalism and accountability are required.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
