UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital  currently employs more than 150 psychiatrists and manages more than 400 psychiatric beds across the network. We have more than 390,000 outpatient visits a year and over $80 million in research funding. We have an array of opportunities across specialties such as:

• Adult outpatient including subspecialties in OCD, bipolar, & women's health
• Geriatric outpatient and nursing homes
• Child & Adolescent including subspecialties in autism & early childhood trauma

UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital  is an integrated behavioral health system comprising clinical services, education and training, and research.   Together with the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, we provide behavioral health care that is informed by the latest research, for individuals across the life span, who are at all stages in their recovery.  Many of our sites are teaching clinics and offer multiple opportunities for training residents, medical students, and other trainees. The Department of Psychiatry offers a Clinician Educator Faculty Development Program and is also actively recruiting physicians who are interested in furthering our robust DEI initiatives including the University of Pittsburgh Race and Social Determinants of Equity and Well-being Cluster Hire and Retention Initiative. 

Our Telepsychiatry Division continues to grow, and at this time we have limited casual and part-time telepsychiatry openings for our outpatient mental health clinics.  We have received an increase in applications, so screening and interview priority will be given to those who currently hold active licensure in their home state and the state of Pennsylvania.  

J-1 positions are also available at our network hospitals.  We are now interviewing for 2027 J-1 positions.

Requirements

Qualified candidates will be a board certified or board eligible psychiatrist with intent to become board certified within 2 years, and possess, or will obtain, a PA license to practice medicine.
