Position Description:
The Assistant Principal provides collaborative, student-centered leadership in partnership with the Principal, staff, students, and families to continuously improve teaching and learning. This role is grounded in the Marysville School District’s promise that all students are prepared for their future through inclusive, high-quality learning, strong partnerships, and a foundation of trust.
The Assistant Principal’s primary focus is to strengthen daily classroom instruction to ensure high levels of academic growth and achievement for every student. Through coaching, feedback, and data-informed decision-making, the Assistant Principal supports educators in implementing effective, equitable instructional practices.
Working closely with the Principal, the Assistant Principal shares responsibility for leading the overall school program and cultivating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment. This includes advancing all components of the instructional system—curriculum, teaching practices, and assessment—while maintaining high expectations, integrity, and accountability. Importantly, this position utilizes state and district data to assess student learning and performance outcomes and to adjust classroom support and instruction accordingly.
The Assistant Principal demonstrates a deep understanding of and prioritizes teaching and learning. Along with the Principal, will actively create the conditions in which educators thrive, and students succeed. This includes fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and shared responsibility for student outcomes.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Washington State Administrator credential with Principal endorsement required
Valid Washington State Teaching certificate
Successful teaching and instructional leadership experience
Experience and/or training with cultural, ethnic, and language diversity preferred
Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint
Clearance
Proof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later)
I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act
Completion of all district-required trainings within thirty (30) calendar days from hire date

Establishes clear, consistent expectations for student behavior that foster safe, respectful, and productive learning environments
Partners with students and families from diverse backgrounds to support student success and well-being
Uses student voice and feedback to inform school improvement and strengthen engagement
Aligns curriculum, assessment, and instruction to ensure high levels of learning for every student
Leads targeted supports for students most at risk, improving outcomes for historically underserved groups
Fosters collaboration among staff to improve instructional practices and student results
Communicates effectively with a focus on student growth, progress, and success
Promotes college, career, and life readiness through high-quality instruction and student support systems
Bilingual in Spanish is preferred
Essential Job Functions:
Actively participate in district-provided, job-embedded professional learning to continuously improve leadership and instructional practice
Supervise, support, and evaluate instructional and operational staff to improve teaching quality and student outcomes
Ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment by actively monitoring student activities and school climate
Foster a positive, respectful, and welcoming school culture by partnering with students, families, staff, and the community, which results in strong outcomes for students.
Oversee student attendance, behavior, wellness, and extracurricular programs to promote engagement and achievement.
Allocate and manage resources to meet legal requirements and maximize impact on instruction and student learning.
Lead and support continuous improvement of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices.
Use data to inform decisions, strengthen programs, and improve outcomes for all students.
Uphold and maintain safe, well-managed school operations and facilities
Build strong, professional relationships with students, staff, families, and the broader community
Communicate effectively and maintain consistent, professional interactions with all stakeholders
Establish and maintain professional rapport and visibility with students
Comply with all district policies, procedures, and the Code of Professional Conduct
Perform related duties as assigned
