Position Summary
The Governor's Institutes of Vermont is seeking energetic and empathetic Resident Assistants (RAs). The RAs help to create a vibrant, supportive, and compelling environment for students. As a Resident Assistant, you'll be part of the team of on-site staff members ensuring the well-being and safety of the students during our intensive summer Institutes. You'll be an integral part of a close-knit community, fostering a supportive and healthy environment where young people can flourish.
Resident Advisors (RAs) serve as mentors, community builders, and role models for students during the Institute. Living on campus throughout the program, RAs foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging residential environment that supports students’ personal and social growth. They lead group check-ins, organize activities, encourage peer connection, and uphold Institute policies to ensure a positive living and learning experience. This is a live-in leadership role requiring enthusiasm, responsibility, and collaboration to help deliver a holistic and memorable Institute experience for all participants.
This role’s focus is supervising and supporting the students in all aspects of their GIV experience. Ideal candidates will have experience working with teenagers, building community, and demonstrating leadership within a student-centered environment.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
Serve as a mentor and positive role model by showing energy and enthusiasm for student engagement
Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive living environment by modeling and maintaining appropriate boundaries
Lead group check-ins and encourage participation and peer connection
Help create a safe residential environment by enforcing Institute rules and policies
Help students navigate new experiences, such as roommate conflict
Effectively plan and lead student life activities, including games and social events
Support holistic Institute experience alongside other staff members
Live on campus for the entire Institute
Qualifications
The ideal candidate has:
Experience in working with teenagers, building community, and demonstrating leadership within a student-centered environment
The ability to engage with and inspire students of different backgrounds
Experience organizing activities or community-building initiatives for teenagers
Energy and motivation to invest in young people and their dreams
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to give and receive thoughtful feedback
The flexibility to pivot when needed and take in feedback
Already celebrated their 21st birthday
A valid driver’s license
A sense of humor!
