Description
The University of Maryland School of Dentistry is conducting a search for a full-time Open-rank non-tenure track faculty position for Assistant Dean for Admissions and Recruitment. The Assistant Dean for Admissions and Recruitment provides strategic, collaborative, and mission aligned leadership for all recruitment, admissions, and enrollment processes within the University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD). The Assistant Dean leads the development and execution of comprehensive enrollment strategies, oversees application review and selection processes, ensures equitable and inclusive admissions practices, and partners across the School to attract and enroll a diverse, talented, and academically excellent student body.
The responsibilities of the position include:
- Strategic Leadership & Vision
- Develop and implement a school wide admissions strategy aligned with UMSOD’s mission, enrollment goals, and commitment to inclusive excellence.
- Provide strategic leadership for recruitment and admissions initiatives, ensuring processes support patient centered, socially responsible future dental professionals.
- Recruitment & Outreach
- Lead targeted recruitment efforts, including outreach to pre dental advisors, university partners, community organizations, and pathway program stakeholders.
- Oversee and participate in campus visits, virtual sessions, interview days, recruitment fairs, and community events that strengthen the applicant pipeline.
- Collaborate with marketing and communications to develop compelling messaging for prospective students.
- Admissions Operations & Application Management
- Oversee the holistic review process, including application screening, interviews, and selection for all UMSOD academic programs.
- Provide leadership for admissions committees ensuring fair, compliant, and transparent processes.
- Develop and refine operational policies and procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of admissions workflows.
- Data, Reporting & Accreditation
- Collect, analyze, and interpret admissions data to evaluate trends, guide decision making, and support enrollment planning.
- Provide required admissions data for accreditation, institutional assessments, and national organizations (e.g., ADEA, ADA).
- Ensure compliance with university, legal, accreditation, and regulatory policies governing admissions.
- Team Leadership & Budget Oversight
- Supervise and mentor admissions staff, fostering a collaborative, service oriented, and high-performance culture.
- Oversee the admissions budget.
- Provide professional development opportunities that strengthen staff capabilities in recruitment, customer service, and technology.
- Collaboration & Schoolwide Engagement
- Partner with departments, program directors, Student Affairs, and Development to support scholarship awarding, orientation, and student engagement.
- Represent UMSOD on internal and national committees focused on admissions and enrollment.
- Engage alumni and community partners to support recruitment and strengthen applicant pathways.
Qualifications
Candidates should hold a DDS/DMD or PhD and have experience in a School of Dentistry educational environment. Qualified applicants must be eligible for an academic appointment in the School of Dentistry and a record of teaching, service and scholarship consistent with the appointment. Experience working in admissions and recruitment related activities strongly preferred.

Hiring range: $135,000 - $195,000 per year (depending on academic rank and commensurate with education and experience).
