Pay Rate: Starting Range: $23.40 -$28.00 per hr. with top of range: 32.86 DOE: DOQ (Work 8-months a year with year-round pay will be 8/12 or 67% of listed hourly rate) Benefit Eligible position
POSTION SUMMARY
The Lake Estes Marina Assistant Manager works seasonally about 8 months out of the year and is contracted as a full-time benefitted position with pay earned during the season divided over 12 months. This position is responsible for assisting the Marina Manager in seasonal operation of the Lake Estes Marina including the collection of day use fees for the day use areas around Lake Estes. This position requires knowledge of retail sales, Colorado fishing licenses, Colorado and Lake Estes boating regulations and safety, boat and bike maintenance and rental operations, routine maintenance, and custodial duties involved in care of the playgrounds, bathrooms, and picnic areas at the Marina. This employee must possess excellent supervisory, organizational, scheduling, budgeting, and public relation skills. This employee’s work schedule is variable based on the season.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations
Work with Marina Manager to promote Lake Estes Marina, and day-use areas, and ensure safety and a high level of customer service/satisfaction.
Assist in purchasing, pricing, stocking and inventory of merchandise for Marina store, and purchase additional marina supplies as needed.
Operate POS system, including inventory/price entry, sales and deposit reports, and prepare Marina deposits.
Manage fee collection around Lake Estes Marina, Cherokee Draw, Wapiti Meadows, and install, remove and maintain fee signs.
et up and monitor gas delivery, dumpster removal, and other essential services.
Customer Service/Sales
Provide high customer service by resolving concerns and/or complaints from staff and visitors.
Rent boats and bicycles and inform customers on use/safety requirements on all rentals.
Sell merchandise, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPOW) licenses, and issue daily and annual boat and vehicle permits, and dockage collections.
Work with the Facility Rental Coordinator on reservations for the Lake Estes Marina Pavilion and ensure the set up, event monitoring and clean-up of the Pavilion reservations.
Assist with organizing special events between the Lake Estes Marina and the Town of Estes Park, and other local and visiting entities as needed.
Work with volunteers as needed.
Maintenance
Maintain all marina facilities and equipment, which include duties required for the opening of the marina in the spring and winterizing the marina in the fall.
Upkeep, maintain and purchase rental (boats, bikes), pavilion (chairs, tables, grills) and maintenance equipment.
Maintain dock decks, floats, and cables, and maintain, install, remove regulatory buoys on Lake Estes.
Perform seasonal landscaping maintenance in and around marina, keeping Marina building, pavilion and park area clean.
Regularly inspect all marina facilities to ensure facilities and grounds are adequately maintained, safe and ready for use, including picnic tables, playground, Pavilion around the Marina.
Supervision
Supervise a small staff of seasonal workers in the maintenance and operation of the marina facility.
Assist with hiring, training, and motivating staff and volunteers, and work with employees to correct deficiencies.
Compliance
Maintain safety standards by ensuring proper operation of marina equipment and communicating safety rules and regulations to marina visitors.
Maintain records - rental totals, gas log, safety manual, policy manual, personnel manual, BOR inspections, CTSI inspections.
OTHER DUTIES
Work with marketing on promoting the Lake Estes Marina, and regularly post events and Lake Estes Marina news to the District’s Web site and social media sites.
Keep updated on Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and other new developments in this field.
Respond both verbally and in writing to complaints, concerns or requests for information.
Maintain professional relationships with the EVRPD supporting staff, Estes Valley Recreation District Board, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Bureau of Reclamation, Estes Valley Fire Protection District, and Clean Marina Colorado.
Attend EVRPD board meetings and/or district safety meetings upon request.
Assist in bid preparation when needed for capital purchases.
Assist in development of BOR projects.
Other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Majority of work is conducted outside with exposure to weather and extreme temperatures.
Frequently work near water, moving mechanical parts, motors, mowers and wildlife.
Exposed to slippery surfaces, dirt, dust, grease, loud noises, odors/fumes, and vibration.
Work will occur across uneven terrain, including hills and slopes (dock ramps) near lake, which may present numerous slipping and tripping hazards, and interactions with wildlife.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
High level of physical endurance needed with ability to access all work sites required for the position.
Frequently required to engage in a variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and squatting.
Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, balance, kneel and twist; maintain physical balance and physical control, coordination.
Required to use dexterity of hands and fingers to finger, handle or feel.
Must possess the ability to talk, hear, smell, maintain physical balance and physical control, and coordination including eye/hand, hand/foot.
Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and possess physical mobility and agility.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Ability to perform first aid and lifesaving skills and equipment to staff and patrons with a high level of physical, emotional, and mental energy required.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
This position is subject to EVRPD’s pre-employment screening requirements including, but not limited to: Criminal, National Sex Offender, and Motor Vehicle background checks, and a pre-employment medical examination/physical.
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
Operations, security, and maintenance of a marina.
Basic boat operation and motor maintenance; 2 cycle and 4 cycle.
Basic bike maintenance.
Use of latex and enamel paints and stains and use of hand tools, power tools (circular saw, jig saw, sawzall, drills. etc.), riding mower, chain saw, power washer, hand mower, etc.
CPW TLS license system.
Principles and practices of effective employee supervision, including selection, training, work evaluation, and discipline.
Perform first aid and lifesaving skills to staff and patrons; ability to swim.
Basic principles and practices of accounting, cash handling, and budget development.
Watercraft handling and safety, and rules and regulations related to navigation and marina operations.
Develop and implement goal objectives, policies, procedures, work standards and internal controls.
Interface successfully with customers and the general public; oral and written communication.
Make decisions with staffing, weather, prioritizing and scheduling duties.
Use good professional judgment, honesty, and integrity in decision making as well as make immediate pressure related decisions.
Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required:
Minimum of two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience working at a marina or related experience in retail sales, renting equipment, or general maintenance.
- Minimum of one (1) year supervisory/management experience.
Preferred:
- A bachelor’s degree with major coursework in business administration and a minimum of four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in marina operations, including
three (3) years of management experience.
Experience with boat and/or bike maintenance
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
CPR, First Aid, and AED certification or the ability to obtain these within 6 months of hire.
