- Kitchen Assistant
Description
Spokane International Academy is seeking a passionate Kitchen Assistant who will implement the school’s food program. This person will assist in the preparation of meats, vegetables, fruits, soups, breads and salads for meal kits. This person will utilize cafeteria equipment and past cooking experience, and will help inspect equipment for cleanliness and functional operation. Other functions include receiving food and supplies, cleaning the kitchen and packing area, and loading/operating the dishwasher. The Kitchen Assistant is a member of the school’s operations team and reports directly to the Director of Operations.
Major Responsibilities:
Help inspect equipment for cleanliness and functional operation
Clean and sanitize the workplace and cooking utensils
Perform cooking duties with or without other workers as needed
Follows proper receiving, storage and preparation techniques to insure that all food items are maintained at a high quality until consumed
Assist in maintaining an accurate inventory of all food, supplies and equipment
Loading and operating the dishwasher
Ability to understand and carry out detailed written and oral instructions
Knows the policies of the school and the administration of those policies
Takes responsibility for and takes reasonable precaution to protect life, health, and wellbeing of all persons in the building
Communicates school programs to the community with enthusiasm and positivity
Keep current with employee safety training, such as blood borne pathogens training etc.
Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
Other duties as assigned by the kitchen managers or Director of Operations
Must be willing and able to work alongside staff and around students and families
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) or one or two years related experience and/or training.
Must obtain or have a valid food handler's permit.
Successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities
Ability to communicate and maintain good working relations with all SIA employees, vendors, contractors, and public entities
Ability to work effectively in an environment with frequent interruptions requiring the ability to concentrate and consistently produce accurate work while responding to interruptions and changing priorities
Initiative and ability to work with minimal direction; sound judgment and decision making capabilities are essential
Must possess a valid Washington state driver’s license and a safe driving record and be able and willing to operate school owned vehicles, or your own, for school business (will be reimbursed for travel at the federal rate)
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in charter schools and/or urban education
Ability to communicate in a language other than English
Supervision:
This position works towards a common operational goal and reports directly to the Director of Operations. This position also receives daily supervision from the Kitchen Manager.
