Located in Greater Boston,MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college, offering associatedegrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills,Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.
Position Summary:
The ideal candidate will join a vibrant educationalcommunity, and have a desire and ability to serve a population of students withvarious needs and backgrounds. This is apart-time, non-unit position with no benefits.
MassBay Community College seeks qualified part-time evening LabAssistants/Learning Specialists in our EMT and Paramedicine courses. The Emergency Medical Services LabAssistant/Learning Specialist assists in the laboratory and simulation settingin the Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic Programs. Our LabAssistants/Learning Specialists have obtained and maintain current,unrestricted, and appropriate state and national certification and/or licensurewhere applicable and have earned appropriate education. These certificationsand licensures must be provided, as requested, to meet state and nationalaccreditation requirements. The LearningSpecialists/Lab Assistant must be proficient in all areas of prehospitalpatient management and interventions, communicate effectively, assess studentsobjectively and work as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide instruction in evening EMS courses to students on various topics in basic and advanced emergency care procedures and patient management;
- Supervise and/or evaluate students through skills practice in the proper procedures for safe and effective use of EMS equipment and simulation manikins under the direction of the Instructor/Coordinator or lead instructor;
- Coordinate and facilitate groups of students and supervise open labs, as needed;
- Maintain current working knowledge of prehospital practices and EMS education curriculum and teaching methodology;
- Maintain appropriate paperwork and documentation;
- Collaborate with faculty concerning students' academic progress and needs;
- Prepare EMS lab sessions with the proper number of materials and equipment necessary to effectively teach or evaluate EMS skills for each student under the direction of the Instructor/Coordinator or lead instructor;
- Maintain a safe lab environment during skills training and evaluation sessions;
- Attend at least one department or Advisory Committee meeting each semester;
- Carry out other related duties as assigned by the Dean consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement;
- Work in the evening to assist with lab and simulation activities;
- Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
- MA Paramedic certification in good standing with no history of suspension or revocation;
- Current AHA BLS and ACLS certification;
- 3 years as a paramedic working on an ambulance or other acute care setting, i.e., Emergency Department.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action;
- Experience working in a community college or similar environment;
- Demonstrated commitment to working with students in need;
- Paramedic + Current Massachusetts EMS Instructor/Coordinator credentials;
- Current AHA BLS, ACLS, PALS instructor credentials;
- Experience working with college students in a flexible setting.
Times andDays:
This willbe an evening position. The successful candidate will be required to work inthe evening. Must be able to commit to 4-8 hours weekly during the semesters. The programhas day and evening EMT and Paramedicine courses; this position focuses oncandidates available for the evenings. Both EMT and Paramedicine programsenroll students in the fall, spring and summer.
Additional Information:
Salary Range: $49.32 per hour
Classification: MCCC Part-Time, Grade 5
