OverviewAbout the Michigan PGA
The Michigan PGA Section , located in East Lansing, Michigan, is one of the 41 Sections of the Professional Golfers' Association of America. Its geographic territory includers all of the lower peninsula and Eastern half of the upper peninsula. The Michigan PGA Section also has Northern, Eastern and Western Chapters as well as a Senior Organization that operate within the Section.
Its mission is to promote the growth and enjoyment of the game of golf, and to provide benefits and services that meet the needs of golf professionals and the golf industry.

The Michigan PGA Section was founded in 1922 and consists of over 950 PGA Members and Associates. The Michigan PGA has 7 full time staff members, a 6 month PGA WORKS Fellow and two summer interns that are hired each year.
Job Summary
The Michigan PGA Section is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and motivated Assistant Tournament Director to support and assist the Tournament Director in the day-to-day operation of the Michigan PGA Section Championships department. This includes PGA Member events and Championships, PGA Tour and Champions Tour Qualifiers, Men's, Women's and Senior State Opens as well as the administration of events in all three Chapters.
Experience Required
Qualifications
- Background in golf operations, tournament administration, or event management
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work long hours, weekends, and holidays during the tournament season
- Willingness to travel extensively throughout Michigan
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Google Suite, Wordpress, etc...)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Working knowledge of the Rules of Golf
- Experience with Golf Genius or similar tournament management software
Education
- Bachelor's degree (B.A / B.S) or equivalent is required
- PGA Professional, PGA Associate, or interest in pursuing PGA Membership is preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift and move tournament equipment (up to 40 lbs)
- The employee must have a valid drivers license and be able to drive the company vehicle to and from various locations throughout the Section
Essential Responsibilities
Section Tournament Operations
- Assist with the planning, setup, and execution of Section tournaments and events
- Support on-site tournament operations including registration, scoring, pace of play, rules administration and scoring
- Prepare tournament materials such as tee sheets, pairings, scorecards, cart signs, and local rules sheets
- Assist with course setup including setting tees, hole locations, and course marking
- Assist with overseeing the responsibilities of support staff including two dedicated interns for the summer and rules officials at each event
- Assist in applying the Rules of Golf and Michigan PGA tournament policies
Administration & Coordination
- Assist in the site selection and scheduling of events each year
- Assist with administration of event exemptions, rules and regulations, entry forms, etc..
- Set up and manage events within tournament software platforms (Golf Genius)
- Communicate with host facilities, PGA Professionals, volunteers, and participants before and after events
- Assist with tracking entries, withdrawals, refunds, and eligibility requirements
- Support post-event reporting, record keeping, player of the year points and archival of tournament results
Chapter Tournament Administration
- Serve as the primary Section contact for administration of Chapter Pro-Am events including event setup and registration on Golf Genius, eligibility verification, results posting, purse distribution, and coordination of facility invoices and payments.
- Work with staff to ensure Chapter pages on the website are up-to-date.
General Section Support
- Assist with Drive ,Chip & Putt events as well as Foundation activities as assigned
- Support other Michigan PGA Section initiatives and administrative projects as needed
- Represent the Michigan PGA Section in a professional and positive manner at all times
Benefits
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Full-time, non-exempt position with starting compensation between $46,000 - $48,500 based on qualifications and experience
