Position Description:
The University of Louisville School of Medicine (UofL SOM), established in 1837, invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine.
We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated academic emergency medicine residency-trained, board certified, or board eligible/ABEM/ABOEM physician for a full-time core faculty position with a demonstrated record of operational leadership, clinical excellence, medical education, and administrative experience. The successful candidate will play a key role in medical student and resident education and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Overseeing the education and evaluation of medical students and residents in the Department of Emergency Medicine.
- Teach and mentor medical students and residents in both clinical and didactic settings.
- Participate in curriculum development and innovation in medical education for undergraduate and graduate medical education.
- Provide high-quality patient care in the University of Louisville Hospital Emergency Department.
- Engage in scholarly activity and departmental service as appropriate for rank.
- Residency Core Faculty responsibilities, including resident mentorship and evaluation, interviewing and recruitment, didactic conference attendance and participation, and program evaluation
Qualifications:
- Board certified or board eligible/ABEM/ABOEM physician in Emergency Medicine.
- Eligibility for medical licensure in Kentucky.
- Proven track record in education, leadership, and clinical practice.
- Experience in academic program administration and medical student teaching is highly desirable.
- Commitment to patient care, faculty development, and the educational mission of the department.
About Us: The University of Louisville Hospital, a 404-bed tertiary care facility, is the primary adult teaching hospital for UofL SOM. It is the region's only Level 1 Adult Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and Adult Burn Unit. The Department of Emergency Medicine operates a state-of-the-art emergency department with 43 treatment areas spanning 30,000 sq. ft., caring for over 55,000 patients annually. We are opening a new 24-bed Emergency Department Observation Unit mid-August, 2025.
