Description
The elementary school assistant principal serves as part of the administrative team providing instructional and cultural leadership of the school. This position works with the principal to carry out the district’s mission and vision at the school level, partnering with families and community to ensure a culture of equity and belonging, where every student achieves ambitious levels of learning through relevant and rigorous educational experiences.
Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Established success as an educational leader, as either a dean of students, program leader, instructional coach, or other formal capacity that clearly demonstrates the candidate’s ability to successfully help lead a school community.
- Is a lead-learner with a deep knowledge of high-quality instructional strategies and desire to continue learning.
- Proven track record as an educational leader/educator that demonstrates unwavering commitment to ensure all students learn at high levels.
- Ability to establish and maintain a positive learning environment for all. Strength in managing conflict in a positive and professional manner.
- Understands the importance of supporting the social/emotional needs of students and the critical role it plays in their success.
- Leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a data-driven plan for increasing student achievement, including the use of multiple student data elements.

Certification
- Valid Washington State Certificate with Principal Endorsement
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Bilingual/biliterate in English and Spanish preferred.
- Possess a passion for teaching and learning, and a depth of knowledge of elementary literacy and mathematics instruction.
- Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning and the ability to support implementation of inclusionary practices to meet the diverse learning needs of all students.
- Knowledge and experience with dual language programs and language acquisition.
- Recognized for positive attitude and sense of collegiality.
- Ability to foster staff growth, creativity, and flexibility using a variety of techniques.
- Knowledge/awareness of their own cultural identity and how this influences behavior; desire to learn about the cultural identity of others.
- Ability to establish and nurture an environment that promotes cultural competence and equitable treatment of staff, students, and patrons of the district.
- Advocate for equity, inclusion and professional practices that ensure all students achieve at high levels.
- Knowledge of SEL practices and approaches.
- Ability to create a safe, orderly, positive school climate for students and staff.
- Demonstrated successful experience in shared decision making, program development, staff supervision and evaluation.
- Experience working with bilingual/bicultural students, faculty and families.
