Description:
Houghton University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment in the Department of Sport, Recreation, and Wellness, within the School of Management and Creative Arts, at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank. This appointment will begin in the fall semester of 2026 or possibly earlier, with a primary focus on Sports Administration/Management and a possible secondary emphasis on Physical Education and/or Recreation. This position directly supports the Sport, Recreation, and Wellness (SRWM) degree with focus areas in Athletic Administration and Sport Management, Health Promotion and Fitness, Equine-Assisted Therapies, Recreation, and Sports Ministry.
We are seeking candidates with a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduates, both inside and outside the classroom. Teaching responsibilities could include applied courses in the major and collaborative curriculum management in related minors. The SRWM Program is a growing program with a shifting emphasis toward sports administration/management so preference will be given to candidates with teaching expertise in areas of marketing, communication, law, finance, or event management. In addition to teaching, responsibilities will include advising undergraduate students; engaging in scholarly activity and research; providing service to the department, university, community, and the profession. Additional responsibilities include developing new courses and redesigning existing courses as needed and supervision of field experiences, internships, and experiential learning.

Anticipated Salary Range:
$43,000 - $53,000 annually

Qualifications:
Required qualifications:
- PhD or equivalent degree from an accredited college or university in Sports Management or Recreation, or a related field. Candidates currently pursuing a terminal degree will also be considered.
- Experience teaching University-level sport and/or recreation management courses or closely related content.
Mature Christian faith. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to excellence and creativity in undergraduate teaching.
- Commitment to integrating Christian faith into their teaching.
- An interest and willingness to support and mentor undergraduate students, including collaborative research.
Preferred qualifications:
- Ability to establish relationships with sports facilities, athletic programs, and professional sports organizations, to cultivate experiential learning opportunities for students including internship placements.
- Experience and credentials in Physical Education and/or Recreation.
- Engagement with students in developing and fostering community partnerships.
- Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities, and commitment to a positive, fun, and team-oriented work environment.
