Description
This position will assist in the planning and execution of the golf course maintenance program in a capacity that will prepare the Assistant-In-Training with the necessary skills to become a successful 1 st Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. The individual will receive experience in all aspects of golf course maintenance and integrated plant management. The Assistant-In-Training will be provided an opportunity to learn and develop as a golf course manager at their own pace under the mentorship of the Director of Agronomy, Head Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent(s). Responsibilities of the Assistant in Training position include:- Assists with the planning, directing and participation of the golf course maintenance program
- Participates in managerial meetings and provides recommendations and updates on the progress of golf course happenings
- Assists in the evaluation of the entire golf course maintenance operation and contributes to personnel management, employee safety and personnel discipline
- Performs golf course maintenance to a standard that serves as an example for the rest of the staff to follow
- Direct responsibility/involvement of golf course chemical and fertility programs
- Works with Assistant Superintendents and supporting staff to ensure the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of all chem/fert applications which includes but not limited to:
- Planning and execution of scheduled chem/fert applications
- Maintains the cleanliness and organization of equipment and chemical building
- Upkeep of quality record keeping
- Coordinates/Performs calibrations of equipment
- Assists with managing inventory of the chem/fert program (products, parts, PPE, etc.)
- Maintains updates and posting of "SDS" in proper location(s)
- Reports necessary repairs or maintenance of equipment
- Works with Assistant Superintendents and supporting staff to ensure the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of all chem/fert applications which includes but not limited to:
- Assists with administrative aspects of the operation
- Assists with maintaining updated communications/signage throughout the maintenance facility (instructional checklists, employee contact list, team schedules, OSHA signs, etc.)
- Assists with any other duties requested by the superintendent
- Assists with the supervision and execution of golf course irrigation
The individual must have or currently be pursuing a 2-4 year Turf Management degree or certificate and/or have previous golf course experience. The ideal candidate has a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and an eagerness to learn and grow in the turfgrass industry.
