Description
Position Overview:
The Assistant Director of Advancement will be responsible for serving as the primary liaison to the Lamplighter Parents’ Association and grandparents. The Assistant Director of Advancement will be detail oriented and possess the ability to work with staff and volunteers to plan and implement friend-raising activities and fundraising that connect parents and grandparents to the School. This position will focus on program development and management, recruiting and coordinating volunteers, communication with constituents, event management, and database maintenance.
Parent Relations Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary liaison to the Lamplighter Parents’ Association attending LPA Board meetings and other committee meetings to facilitate communication and strong relations between the School and parent volunteers; support volunteer recruitment and identify a pipeline for future leadership
- Serve as the primary liaison for LPA events and programs:
- Carnival
- LPA Auction: Gala, Socials, Class Projects, Class Pets, School Offerings, Fulfillment
- Cultural Awareness: International Night, Diwali, Native American Heritage, Lunar New Year, and others
- Community Outreach: Family Gateway support through snack bags, costume drive, laundry pods, and cereal drive; Withers partnership
- Faculty Staff Appreciation: weekly snacks, monthly faculty/staff meetings, Faculty Appreciation Week, back-to-school and conference meals
- Spirit Store: vendor liaison, volunteer management
- Other LPA Board committee support
- Coordinate communication to Grade Level Coordinators, information for Lamplighter’s weekly eNews, and information for the annual Impact Report
- Liaise with the Business Office for LPA check request and payment processes
- Update and distribute LPA Handbook annually; share timely information with various LPA committees to maintain consistency from year-to-year
- Monitor updates and share information for school communications channels, such as social media
Grandparent Relations Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the Grandparent Activity Program, which includes Grandest Friends’ Days and Grandparent Readers
- Maintain grandparent schedules for grandparent reader days, including managing the email requests and scheduling of those readers; communicate with the Assistant Heads of School for any scheduling issues and changes
- Identify grandparent volunteers for various committees and projects
- Manage Grandest Friends’ Days volunteers in coordination with the LPA Board
Other Responsibilities:
- Participate as an active and present member of the Lamplighter community
- Support and carry out other duties as assigned by the Catherine M. Rose Head of School and the Chief Advancement Officer
Requirements
Education and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- One – three years of professional experience in education or non-profit fundraising preferred
- Well organized, with ability to effectively handle multiple tasks and manage multiple projects/timelines
- Ability to set priorities and meet multiple deadlines with minimum supervision
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- High enthusiasm, creativity, and sociability
- Proficient computer skills; in particular, knowledge of Microsoft Office and knowledge of Raiser’s Edge preferred
- Positive attitude and willingness to provide assistance to colleagues when required to meet critical deadlines
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
