The successful candidate will participate in a range of on- and off-campus admissions and recruitment activities representing Clark University's undergraduate educational experience to prospective students, their parents, and counselors. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to build and iterate strategies for effectively recruiting students and creating collaborative working relationships. The successful candidate will perform counselor-of-the-day duties on a regularly scheduled basis, which includes presenting information sessions to large crowds, meeting with individual students and families, and interviewing prospective students. The qualified candidate will review admissions applications consistent with institutional policies and priorities. All admissions counselors must use quantitative data, in addition to qualitative feedback, to improve their approach to engagement and student recruitment.
This assistant director will coordinate the alumni volunteer program including collaborating with the Alumni and Friends Engagement Office to recruit new volunteers, provide regular communication with volunteers about opportunities to engage, and assign volunteer tasks dependent on the admissions cycle
The candidate must possess strong communication skills and be eager to advance the work of undergraduate admissions. The candidate must have previous experience working in admissions or related fields. This position requires occasional weekend and evening work and about 6-8 weeks of travel per year.
Major Responsibilities:
- Work with the Senior Director for Admissions and the Associate Director of Marketing and Communications to develop and execute a communication plan for alumni volunteers.
- Work with the Office of Alumni and Friends Engagement to recruit new alumni volunteers.
- Coordinate alumni volunteer assignments including outreach to prospective and admitted students, alumni panel webinars, volunteers for on-campus open houses, and other possible admissions related outreach.
Travel and Recruitment:
- Extensive recruitment travel (5-8 weeks) in the fall with some spring travel.
- Research trends in assigned geographic territory and plan all logistics associated with recruitment travel within assigned territory.
- Assist with travel to other regions as needed.
- Travel to college fairs, high school visits, alumni events, and other off campus recruitment activities as needed.
- Communicate with prospective students and their families as well as with counselors from assigned geographic regions.
- Conduct student interviews with prospective students
Application Review:
- As needed, read, evaluate, rate and make recommendations to the Vice President for Admissions and Financial Assistance and the Admissions Committee on first-year applicants.
- Make judgments on the admissibility of student applicants based on institutional policy and independent analysis of applicant's potential for success.
Counselor of the Day Duty:
- Serve as a host and resource to all visiting students and families who visit Clark University on the dates assigned Counselor of the Day duty coverage.
- Conduct group information sessions.
- Provide phone coverage on scheduled coverage days.
Other Duties as Assigned
- Work fall open houses and admitted student days which typically are held on weekends
- Host virtual information sessions
- Conduct prospective students online and on-campus
- Other admissions and recruitment efforts to support University enrollment goals
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
- 1-3 years of professional experience in admissions or related field
- Willingness to travel
- Ability to work on occasional weekend days (approximately 8-10 a year)
- Possession of a valid driver's license
- Strong public speaking skills
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Strong ability to build and maintain professional relationships with multiple constituencies both on and off campus - includes ability to maintain confidentiality
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong computing skills
- Willingness and desire to learn new skills to enhance team performance
- Time management skills and team-oriented attitude
- Experience working with and contributing to a diverse workplace with the ability to interact effectively with a broad range of constituents on campus
- Ability to work independently, as well as in group settings
- Ability to lift 20 lbs
- Understanding of a small, liberal arts and research, residential university setting
- Desire to understand admissions and the larger landscape in which the field is positioned
Additional Information:
Expected Hiring Range: $54,800 to $60,250

The compensation for this position will be determined based on factors that include available budget, internal equity, and the selected candidate's qualifications, experience, education, and other job-related credentials. This range represents Clark University's good-faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting consistent with Clark's compensation philosophy and internal alignment.
