- Assistant Commissioner for Strategic Communications
Description
The Assistant Commissioner for Strategic Communications is responsible for the leadership, planning, organization, and administration of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Strategic Communications Office. This position oversees conference communications, media relations, statistical reporting, historical records, championship communications operations, website content management, and coordination with institutional and external media partners.
The Assistant Commissioner plays a critical role in promoting the visibility, integrity, and brand of the Conference by ensuring accurate, timely, and professional communications related to MEAC sports, championships, student-athlete honors, and special events.
Requirements
The Assistant Commissioner for Strategic Communications shall:
1. Oversee the planning, organization, and administration of the Strategic Communications Office.
2. Manage all MEAC office publications for each sport, including media guides, championship booklets, record books, and other related publications.
3. Ensure the accuracy of statistical reports, publications, and historical records for each sport and championship.
4. Produce, edit, and distribute press releases for championships, individual sports, conference initiatives, and other MEAC events.
5. Plan, organize, and manage all strategic communications operations related to MEAC championships and conference-sponsored events.
6. Produce and maintain all-time record books and media guides for MEAC sports and championships.
7. Supervise personnel and interns assigned to the Strategic Communications Office.
8. Ensure procedures for the selection and announcement of Student-Athletes of the Week are properly followed.
9. Ensure procedures for the selection and announcement of MEAC All-Conference Teams are properly followed.
10. Ensure the Men’s and Women’s All-Sports Awards are accurately calculated and tabulated.
11. Maintain the official conference website and ensure information is accurate, current, and updated daily.
12. Ensure all information submitted to the NCAA is accurate and submitted in accordance with required deadlines.
13. Coordinate with broadcast partners and event personnel to ensure televised MEAC events are supported with the information and materials necessary to produce a first-rate telecast.
14. Develop and maintain an annual archive and photo album of MEAC events for historical, promotional, and institutional record-keeping purposes.
15. Maintain accurate files and official records for all MEAC athletic events, including All-Conference Teams, MVP Awards, Student-Athletes of the Week, championship results, and other conference honors.
16. Complete and submit all required NCAA forms and reports by the applicable deadlines.
17. Attend all MEAC championships to ensure timely and accurate website updates, results reporting, and press release distribution.
18. Distribute information regarding MEAC events to media outlets in a timely, accurate, and professional manner.
19. Keep the Commissioner informed of noteworthy achievements, milestones, and record-breaking performances across the Conference.
20. Provide the Commissioner with weekly updates and results related to MEAC athletics.
21. Work collaboratively with institutional sports information directors to ensure the Conference receives timely and essential information from each member institution.
22. Plan, organize, and execute the annual MEAC Sports Information Directors Workshop.
23. Recommend, implement, and maintain updated technology and systems to support all areas of the Strategic Communications Office.
24. Understand, interpret, and implement all championship tiebreaker procedures as necessary.
25. Maintain and strengthen relationships with conference media partners, including ESPN and other broadcast and media affiliates.
26. Collaborate with the Director of Digital Media on all conference productions, livestreams, digital broadcasts, and related content initiatives.
27. Perform other duties as assigned by the Commissioner and/or Deputy Commissioner.
