- Assistant Camp Director
Description
Assists the Camp Director with the successful operation of the overnight camp program. Plans, organizes, and implements activities, supervises camp counselors, performs administrative tasks, and ensures the safety of campers.
GENERAL WORK SCHEDULE:
This is a residential position where food and lodging are provided during hours of work. The work week follows the camper session which begins each Sunday and ends on Friday with a 24 hour break in-between. Dates of employment include a week of training starting June 14, 2026, and concludes on August 15, 2026.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Plan and implement camp activities as per the program design.
Provide daily oversight and leadership of camp operations. Identify and solve problems, implement appropriate discipline techniques, and enforce policies and procedures.
Plan and facilitate components of the pre-camp staff training program.
Ensure effective communication between staff and parents of campers.
Develop and maintain positive, open communication between campers and camp staff.
Implement and maintain work rules and regulations as required by YMCA Buffalo Niagara and the NYS Health Department.
Pursue new and innovative program initiatives.
Participate with campers when needed in the pool during swim lessons and free swim.
Perform the administrative functions of attendance, camper development, program, and evaluation.
Perform the responsibilities of the Overnight Camp Director during absences.
Implement ongoing safety checks to ensure a healthy and safe camp environment. Implement emergency procedures when necessary.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have at least 24 weeks of previous administrative or supervisory experience in camping or equivalent experience acceptable to the NYS Commissioner of Health.
Must have a Bachelors’ degree or be at least 25 years of age to meet overnight camp regulations.
Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills.
American Red Cross, American Health Association, American Safety & Health Institute certification in CPR/AED (Adult, Child, Infant).
American Red Cross Responding to Emergencies is preferred.
